Appendix N: Inspirational and educational reading is one of the appendices in the 1979 Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Masters Guide.[1] In a more generic sense, "Appendix N" is used to denote a list of inspirations for the flavor, mood and themes of a setting or game.

RuneQuest (1978)[edit | edit source]

The 1978 publication of RuneQuest has a list, which "despite superficial similarities, <...> is actually very different in both its content and intention" from Gygax's.[2]

Influence[edit | edit source]

Activities like "reading Appendix N" have become popular in OSR circles as an exploration of the roots and influences of Dungeons & Dragons.[3][4][5]
